The mission of the Society Policy Engineering Collective (SPEC) is to bring a diverse set of stakeholders together to interrogate pressing societal issues that can affect us all. As part of this process, SPEC will identify and examine critical issues in society and policy that require engineering-by-design approaches toward stakeholder participation, engagement, and problem-solving, to reduce end-user vulnerability. The collective’s goal also includes the development of novel processes in codesign to counteract challenges in a multiplicity of industries including but not limited to energy, telecommunications, biomedical, transportation, and other verticals. As part of this objective, SPEC will aim to close the gap between science, technology, and engineering and the fields of humanities, the arts, and social sciences by introducing novel curriculum development in practice.
